Hacking away on Grand Avenue
It's interesting that none of the trees were marked as we have seen in the past. It's also the law to mark them in advance. And it's interesting that these things always seem to happen in the middle of the summer, when most questionable things happen in Miami as a rule.
TreeWatch is on the case and there may be an appeal as early as today.
But to be fair, many trees are slated for removal. That was part of the plan. Here is a Dropbox file with the 85 page plan, I first published this with the link on March 17, 2017. But still, they should have been marked.
"They are at it again! We need to stop this today. There's a plan to remove our tree canopy to do sidewalks. They'll plant eight foot trees to replace these and we'll wait 40 years for them to be of the size they once were before the hacking. All this to spend our money on sidewalks, pavers, silva cells, tree hackers, tree nurseries, what a racket!" exclaimed Santiago Villegas of Coconut Grove TreeWatch.

Oak trees are protected in Florida
I know its awful but at some point something has to be done. The city is asking for a lawsuit. You cant walk down Main Highway without tripping 10 times and I am able bodied! I dont see how someone in a wheelchair can pass. I know this picture is Grand Ave and not Main Hwy but you get my point.
What we should focus on is the replacement. How can we get better replacements that dont disrupt with their root system?? Thats my 2cents
How many apartments and white boxy houses added to Grove last year and how many trees hacked? There should be a mandate to immediately add trees to every neighborhood for square footage added.
Are they still thinking about planting fake plastic trees?
If the sidewalks are tripping you, then replace the sidewalks, not the trees. Red brick has to be the worse sidewalk material. They are extremely hot! Yes, they look nice, but they hold heat, making for an even hotter downtown area. We really need larger tiles in softer colors set in cement rather than hot bricks set in sand. But, now, we will have hot bricks with no trees. Someone is actually making a ton of our tax dollars to plan this and all we can do is try and figure out how to pay our next property tax bill.
Silva cells will give the new trees room for their roots so they won't go through the sidewalks.The tree in the photograph had no room for roots even though the pavers allow water and some oxygen to the roots, those trees probably never got a large enough area for their roots. Especially being located right next to the road. We want trees but we must give them room to grow. ISA certified arborist FL0784A
The City of Miami appears to be in a rush to kill every tree and replace them with concrete and with more concrete buildings.
