Paper Bag Heads add lots of fun to Gallery Walk

This looks a bit weird now, but on the night of the event, it was a lot of fun. This was Saturday, July 2, 2011 during Gallery Walk night. It was published in the Grapevine the next day, Sunday, July 3, 2011.

The Paper Bag Heads were a big part of Saturday night's Gallery Walk. A bunch of Grove artists put together the performance art piece and it delighted the crowds.

Trina Collins came up with the concept the the rest jumped on board. They started out with a piece at the Mayfair Promenade, dancing and performing to music and then they spread out throughout town for the rest of the evening.

They went from gallery to gallery and made stops at the Fire Show on Virginia Street and even danced a bit at the Drum Circle on Main Highway. Luckily none of the flying fire or fire performers came into contact with the Paper Bags Heads. People stopped them as they made their way around town and took photos of the "bag ladies" as I called them.

Sheri Friedman was the queen Paper Bag Head. She was great, she stayed in character the whole time. She had some trouble moving in the tight costume and had to be lifted up steps at one point.

It was a lot of fun and added a lot to the gallery walk.
Last month the group painted to live classical music, another Trina Collins concept.

The Coconut Grove Gallery Walks are evolving and turning into something great. The crowds seem to love the performance art and it adds a new dimension to just the typical art hanging on the walls in the galleries.

And even with the art hanging on the walls in the galleries, it was more interesting viewing it with a Paper Bag Head artist at your side.
