PeaceJam featured at Grove Rotary luncheon

Viesha Andrews
The Rotary Club of Coconut Grove features PeaceJam at the luncheon on Thursday, March 15. PeaceJam creates young leaders, committed to making positive change in themselves and in their communities through the study and inspiration of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates.

Last November, PeaceJam brought Rogoberta Menchu, a Nobel laureate from Guatemala to Miami through their annual Peace Slam. PeaceJam is an international organization whose programs bring youth together with thirteen Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, including the Dalai Lama, Oscar Arias and Rigoberta Menchu. In this presentation, you will learn why have become the global leader in developing  youth and adult leaders engaged in their communities over the last 20 years. You will also have the opportunity to learn how you can help support PeaceJam's efforts locally in Miami.

The speaker will be Viesha Andrews, an Americorps VISTA Volunteer who is Program Coordinator for PeaceJam Miami. A Miami native, Viesha works to provide local youth with the tools they need to create the world they want to live in today. Viesha describes herself as a social change agent passionately working to assist in the liberation of all people and committed to speaking up for the voiceless and creating spaces of empowerment and agency for all.

The Coconut Grove Rotary luncheon meeting is from 12:30 to 1:30 on the 2nd floor of the Coconut Grove Sailing club (2900 S. Bayshore Drive). The price of the luncheon meeting is $25, or $15 just for the meeting and presentation with no lunch. If you have any questions about this event, please contact helenedudley@yahoo.com.
